Emilio Pucci (1914 - 1992) was a famous fashion designer and politician from Florence, Italy.

Pucci was a semi-professional athlete with a keen interest in several disciplines. He liked skiing, fencing, tennis and swimming. In the 1932 winter Olympics he was part of the Italian team. But he did not compete in any discipline. He studied in Milan, Italy and in the USA where he graduated in social sciences. The University of Florence in Italy awarded him a doctorate in political sciences.

Pucci served in the Italian Air Force as a torpedo bomber and made it to the rank of captain before he ventured into the world of fashion. The first clothes he ever designed were sportswear pieces for the Reed College's skiing team in Oregon, USA. A female friend of his wore a sportswear garment he designed for her. It was photographed when he was on leave in Switzerland. The photos taken of his creation attracted a lot of attention as the photographer who took the pictures worked for Harper's Bazaar. He designed a few garments for the magazine's wintersports edition which were admired all over the world. Instead of starting mass production of his sportswear, he set up his own haute couture house on the Isle of Capri.

His profound knowledge of stretchy materials helped him produce his first swimwear collection. But his love for bold colors and patterns led him to design silk scarves, blouses and dresses. His designs became popular with the high society holidaying on the Isle of Capri and he opened an outlet in Rome in order to expand his business opportunities. By the end of the 1950s his designs were worn by the most famous and beautiful actresses in the world and he expanded the brand's portfolio by another collection: Lingerie.

The Pucci label, famous for their easily identifiable signature prints, the so-called "Pucci prints", have launched many successful collections for more than half a century. The label, part of the Louis Vuitton-Moet-Hennessy Group since 2000, has retained its status as an iconic fashion favorite with celebrities and fashionistas alike.

The first fragrance that was launched under the Pucci label was Vivara, an intense chypre for women, in 1965. It was re-released in 2007. The composition and the bottle design vary greatly from the original but the name remained. Several other fragrances have been launched since 2007.
